Via Everywhere, David Weich at Powells interviews Andrew Sean Greer, author of the fantastic The Confessions of Max Tivoli.
Among other things, in the interview it is revealed that some translations of the novel changed the title from" Confessions" to "Adventures", or the like to avoid confusing "more Catholic" nations from expecting something along the lines of St. Augustine.
As it happens, Greer’s reading at Rakestraw books was the first reading I’ve ever attended. I’d previously avoided them afraid of my own pre-concieved & irrational notions of tedious, academic affairs. With some kind encouragement from one lit-blogger, I went and am forever thankful. It was delightful and I now go to readings whenever I can. (Of course it helps that Mr. Greer is quite engaging and wrote an excellent story).
