But apparently San Francisco is most known for its literary and culinary offerings:

This is the third monthly Canteen Literary Banquet — a sweet blend of excellent food by chef Dennis Leary, formerly of Rubicon (at his spanking-new restaurant next door to the Commodore), and readings by some of the Bay Area’s finest writers: tonight, Andrew Sean Greer and Samina Ali. But there are still some kinks to be worked out, not the least of which is that Canteen’s liquor license hasn’t arrived and it’s not yet open to the public. So, wine must be consumed by the 20-plus attendees in the hotel lobby — both before dinner and between courses.
