Me & Mia, Ann & Ana

Well color me clueless. I just found that Ted Leo song Me & Mia is about eating disorders. It seems "mia" and "ana" are slang for bulemia and anorexia. This was brought to my attention in this discussion on TimorousMe.org
Fighting for the smallest goal
To get a little self-control
Won’t anybody here
Just let you disappear?
Not the doctors, nor you mom nor dad but
Me and Mia, Ann and Ana
Know how hard you try
Don’t you see it in my eyes?
The discussion also takes a tangential veer into the topic of authorial intent and looking for the ‘truth’ or story behind a story, etc… This topic is interesting to me, but likely moot. People that are looking for answers in the wrong place/way probably will continue, but I like the discussion none the less.

That’s pretty incredible. I had interpreted most of the allbum in terms of politics and youthful idealism. I guess it’s time to relisten (again).
to be fair, the discussion you spoke of on timorousme.org consisted of me clumsily calling out the hero worship on the board and people ignoring me and going back to clumsily deciphering the song. but rightfully so. what business did i have trying to dissuade hero worship (or engage a dialogue on critical interpretation) on a rock band’s internet fansite?
anyways, thanks for the links, though i couldn’t find the “collaborator” quote in the jeff tweedy article.
