WTV and the musicians who love him

Which of these do not belong? Ed, Scott, and Yours Truly? The first two: well-read, thoughtful and insightful members of the blogger literati and the LBC. Me? A jackass with a typepad account and the attendant hubris. Regardless, we met for dinner Wednesday and headed to The Booksmith for William T. Vollmann’s reading. They had mentioned tri-blogging the event, Rashomon style. While I cower before their literary prowess, I will simply direct you to their coverage while I take the musical route, tangentially relevant in a gossip column, celebrity sighting sort of way.
At the reading were members of a band I’ve been meaning to mention for a while, The Ebb and Flow. I first saw them as the headline act for a Modern Times Bookstore fundraiser. After that show, I briefly chatted with them while I signed up for their email list. I asked the keyboardist what her question was — during the show they quizzed the crowd for a CD giveaway, her question was not used. Her question turned out to be: what is the crowd’s favorite five Post-Marx Marxist writers? Being the boob I am, I had no knowledge of Post-Marx Marxism – much less have 5 favorites writers in the vein. My ignorance was fully illuminated, I am sure, by my resulting question: wouldn’t all Marxists be Post-Marx by definition? Real smooth. [Any recommendations gladly taken in the comments]
The moral of this story? I am an idiot, but you should check out The Ebb and Flow. Their web site has free downloads, and I see they have an upcoming CD release party at The Bottom Of The Hill.

Poppycock, Tito. You belong. :)
We’re all jackasses with a typepad account.
Echoing Scott & Ed and only adding that you’re right–any Marxist is post-Marx. Pretentious baloney.
SF Sightings — Wlliam T. Vollman
It was the end of another sunny day in the Haight — the perfect weather to get acclimatized for a journey into the dark and depressing world of William T. Vollman. He was reading at the Booksmith. I met up…
Vollman Reading
This was not the William T. Vollman that fired a starter pistol. This was a Vollman with small eyeglasses (not the bullet-stoppers pictured below), with hair so short it didn’t need combing. Perhaps Vollman isn’t Vollman anymore. Maybe now he’s just Vo…
