David Dondero
Posted on July 25, 2005 by Tito
I first heard David Dondero on one of my Rhapsody radios stations, thinking it was some Bright Eyes track I didn’t know about. Apparently I wasn’t the first to make this mistake, and probably not the last. Since then, I’ve grown to be a fan of Dondero’s, and have had the pleasure of catching him live. He gives an outstanding show. Of course, having great songs helps, but his crowd interactions are tip-top, complete with the bad jokes & punnery I tend to prefer. His stage persona is that of an itinerant everyman, so I’ve always wondered why I haven’t heard more talk of him. Perhaps my idea of an everyman is woefully inaccurate, or I’ve once again come late to another party and he is already a household name. In which case, I humbly present my apologies for this emergency broadcast.
Anyway, I’ll do my small bit and throw out a recommendation to anybody who will listen, and ask you to give Dave Dondero a turn in your ears.
Here is a track off his latest CD, Live At The Hemlock: The Real Tina Turner [MP3] which I think is represntative.
Also on Future Farmer’s web site there are some other songs in Real Audio:
- The Real Tina Turner (studio recording)
- Pre-Invasion Jitters
- Ashes on the Highway
and a music video: If You Break My Heart [.MOV]

You should check out some of his stuff with his old band Sunbrain. Somewhat more sonic than his solo stuff, but very good.

And while you’re at that page, check out the photo of a very young Conor O’ wearing a Sunbrain shirt. Now what came first? The conor or the dondero?
