I Love The Smell of Bearclaws in the Morning, Genocide…Not So Much

Piggy-backing on David’s post, I’ll tack on this nugget I found in the Chicago Tribune Sunday Magazine during a recent excursion to the windy city.

Thank you for sharing such an intriguing article about the Rwandan immigrant [accused of atrocities] who was living here in the southwestern suburbs ("The man called Zuzu," June 26). I found the story to be very pertinent to all that is happening in the media to bring awareness to the great needs in Africa.
However, I was disturbed that your article did not come with a "graphic content" warning. The details of the horrors that have taken place amongst the rival Tutsis and Hutu, while factual, are disturbing in a Sunday morning read. Please consider this in future articles.
CHANTELL HOWELL-OHLEY / Tinley Park
While I, too, can appreciate the joys of waking up to Folgers in my cup, I don’t know if sharing my self-interested insensitivity is the strategy I would have taken. Chantell Howell-Ohley, next time you feel the need to put pen to paper, might I suggest instead re-reading Family Circus and saving the world from your ideas on "news"?
Not to turn this into another an elitist, coastist post, I’d like to shine the light on one of NorCal’s own, overheard in Leah Garchik’s regular column:
"I always drive in on Spare the Air Day. Parking’s so much easier.”
Woman to friend, overheard in City Center Oakland on Tuesday by Ken Hempel.
