In the high animated world

Recent major label signings by indie poster children The Decemberists and Death Cab For Cutie have launched countless MySpaces contemplating what it means to be indie. Is it a genre, a sound an ethos? Here at BMK, I generally find such talk boring – as it was and always shall be, it’s about the music. Well, first and foremost – it’s about the children (not to devolve into a Steve Martin pastiche), but then the music. But what of the contrapositive – what happens when “Major” artists … uhhhh … Sell In; could bad musicians become good? Not unlike a Tootsie Pop, I suppose the world will never know, though we came perilously close. But for now Linkin Park Will Stay With Warner Music.

Linkin Park joins a long list of major acts who have publicly threatened or taken legal action against their label only to back down after receiving a hefty check. Acts like the Dixie Chicks, Beck, Incubus and Don Henley have traveled the same path.

Not to imply that Linkin Park is bad, I’ve never heard any of their songs. I am assuming their suckitude based on:

  • Their spelling of “Linkin”
  • their description as a “multiplatinum rap-rock act” {I hear Limp Bizkit/311}

If I’m wrong, dear readers, please advise a good LB song to dip my ears into.
