Do You Speak American?

Fleetwood Mac may have told us to go our own way, but it was “Jim”* - a coworker from my dishwashing high school days who told me that I talked pretty normal for a guy with such a crazy name (Tito Perez for those scoring at home). Perhaps it was this encouragement that drove me to a short-lived career as a telemarketer. If you know anybody from Omaha, I guarantee they’ve either worked as a telemarketer or are close friends/family with somebody who has. Supposedly, the large concentration of call centers has something to do with geography and the “American” accent that we heartlanders sport. Though my sources back home inform me that a lot of the telcos are busy hooking up direct lines to Indian call centers, so who knows.

Irregardless, I get back from a fantastic long weekend in San Diego with an email from my sister with a dialect quiz (which I failed miserably, getting only two correct). If that floats your boat - and we think it does - go forth in love and peace and hair grease. There’s lots of other good stuff beside the quiz.
* Name not changed because he was innocent, but because I never took the time to remember it.
