Smooth rock

Posted on February 7, 2008 by David

My first roommate in New York was born and raised here. He was friendly, but we never meshed. While he’s likely googlable, I’ve never had the urge to google him. Things had a rocky start from the get-go when, in his friendly introduction to the City, he proudly touted CD 101.9. See, they played, well, “smooth” jazz. And that was pretty much the way things went.

Until now. They’ve switched to an “Adult Rock” format, which sounds a lot like vH1. This blogger was kind enough to review the first several hours and, it’s official: next time I drive a car, the new WRXP (as in “rawk xperience”) will surely be my sixth, if not fifth, choice. Woo-hoo.

The proof is in the primordial playlist (same source):

Velvet Underground, “Rock ‘N’ Roll (Live)”
R.E.M., “Supernatural, Superserious” (introduced by Michael Stipe as the New York premiere)
Elvis Costello, “Pump It Up”
Tom Petty & Heartbreakers, “Mary Jane’s Last Dance”
Blondie, “Call Me”
The Bravery, “Believe”
Bruce Springsteen, “Blinded By The Light”
Flaming Lips, “Do You Realize”
U2, “Angel Of Harlem”
Nickelback, “Rockstar”
Red Hot Chili Peppers, “The Zephyr Song”
Black Crowes, “Hard To Handle”
Killers, “Somebody Told Me”
Lenny Kravitz, “Fly Away”
Silverchair, “Straight Lines”
Iggy Pop, “Lust For Life”
Jet, “Are You Gonna Be My Girl”
Rolling Stones, “Shattered”
Cold War Kids, “Hang Me Out To Dry”
Pretenders, “Mystery Achievement”
Everclear, “Everything To Everyone”
Jimi Hendrix Experience, “Foxey Lady”
Radiohead, “Bodysnatchers”
The Police, “Message In A Bottle”

not bad. I would rate it as a slightly disappointing pandora station (a la this one)

I concur. By contrast, my newest non-friend on lastfm is definitely colon blow: http://www.last.fm/user/ColonBlow

Any relation so SuperColonBlow? His relatively major (though abolutely minor) appreciation for Man Or Astroman? would certainly put him on track with my brother

And what’s a non-friend? Some newfangled internet relationship?
