I wouldn’t call it a guilty pleasure–I generally wince in pain at the bloviating ad hominems–but on occasion I will check in on Fox News to see just what garbage they’re spewing these days. Last night was one such occasion.
What I noticed caught me a bit off-guard. There was a story on the [...]

let’s ruin this with words!
Primarily because my friends are not a pack of fucking douchebags.
You get the sense that Thoreau at least would do his own dishes.
Esmeralda County schools has prohibited students from speaking Spanish on the school bus.

I’m 9/10 sure that I am the polar opposite of fashionista1, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying Lauren’s take on getting dressed:
“I am just a visual person… About six months ago, I was wearing some weird get-up, and I suddenly thought to myself, ‘There’s a world of difference between dressing for men and dressing [...]

Will Sheff gets sorta meta pomo at the AV Club:
AVC: The characters that populate The Stage Names use the vocabulary of pop songs and movies to talk about their lives. Is that something you do as well?
WS: Absolutely. It’s a really common trap to want your life to live up to some standard that you [...]

Ahhh…the crucible that is high school journalism. Benson (Omaha) High School’s student newspaper ran an apparently thoughtful and well-received issue about the so-called n-word (that would be ‘nigger’ for those scoring at home). OPS assures the community that “Appropriate action will ensue upon the completion of the investigation.” Uh, okay.
Other fun facts from the [...]

Hot on the heels1 of reading a discussion at the AV Club that touched on the “finality” of a song’s composition, I come acrosss An Aquarium Drunkard’s posting an MP3 of the “Nebraska” version of Bruce Springsteen’s Born In The USA. Compared to the version Reagan sampled, it provides a great example of the different [...]

Jeff “They All Suck” Atwood:
That’s the other problem with the Mac vs. PC debate: it completely misses the point. Computers aren’t couture, they’re screwdrivers. Your screwdriver rocks, and our screwdriver sucks. So what? They’re screwdrivers. If you really want to convince us, stop talking about your screwdriver, and show us what you’ve created with it.

And it is Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
But the question is still fun. Babies are Fireproof posed the question: What are the 10 most recognizable album covers? (Presumably of ALL TIME). I’m still undecided on mine.
But it got me thinking that records1 are unique in this regard. For the most part, each has [...]

I visited BMK with IE for the first time in a bazillion years, and found it unreadable. So while I scrub the CSS and such, please bear with this stunning default-ness.
Updated: Phase 1 complete. I believe there is at least readability with IE now.

One of the spoils of married life is a re-acquisition of Cable Television — something I’d gone a few years without. Couple that with Tivo and I have a nice stash of shows for rainy days.
To get to the point, lately I have been watching a lot of one of my favorite shows, Good [...]

On the one hand, writers:
The real writers, you don’t even know them. The only writers that you hear about are fake fucks. All those guys are real peanut. Most writers that are real won’t take shit from no one. In other words, we’re free. In order to be a real artist, you have to be [...]

Two things jumped out from Bill Simmons’ summer recommendations:
1. He alerts us to “Amazon Prime” in which for $80/year, supposedly you can get anything you order shipped second day air, with no minimum order price. My question: Does this include Fried Chicken?. NOTE: A quick google shows “The Perils of Amazon Prime” at the O’Reilly [...]
